Jalan Ipoh got its name because it was the sole route connecting Kuala Lumpur's downtown to Ipoh. Previously, the street was called as Batu Road. The road used to go all the way to Chow Kit on its southeast end, where it met Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. It is a quick access to Kepong, Sungai Buloh, Cheras, Ipoh, Rawan, and Segambut.
